Captain
Greatest sailor
With eyes of bright flame
You laughed at those who cursed your luck
Blind fools
They knew nothing of your wandered world
You loved your luck, your grace
You broke their rules
Their myths

Changing
The vessel’s name
They cried against your life
You let the gingers walk the booms
Loose-lipped
You shot the albatross, sailors’ souls
Lost to tempest-toss’d waves
Your luck burning
Sour

Smoking
Like canon fire
Brittle fallacies burnt
In your eyes, white fire enlightened
My lady
You welcomed the shark, hunting dolphins
Sailing with bloody dawns
Brave Capitana
Daring

Darling
Seas of white foam
Never crossed your dragon’s chest
That great bulkhead of fire’s breath
Never
Once rocked by marauding cannon fire
You cursed their lying tongues
Superstitious
No more

Dear one
You proved to them
That their false delusions
Would ne’er be your loss of life
Never
Would their false illusions rule your heart
Esperanza of mine
My dearest love
Fierce miss
Haha have been saving this to post for a rainy day, and while it's not rainy I still really wanted to post it.

I made this poem during that creative writing class I took last semester - around March I think. No one in the class actually got the theme of the piece, so this will probably soar right over most of your heads haha. But regardless, it still got pretty good reviews in the class so I hope you all enjoy it as well!
